Julep's Taylor Swatch

Hey!
Here is my current mani - Julep's Taylor with a matte topcoat!

I really love it so far, I chose this one because I just got hired at Walmart and it kind of looks like the Walmart colour, right? Yeah, it does. :)

There are a few chips because I had to actually go to work before I got time to photograph it, but it's lasted so long! Barely any chips and it's been a while!

July Maven Box

Hello!
Being in Canada, Maven boxes take quite a while to arrive to us. I received my July Maven box on July 21st! Here is what I got!

I customize my boxes so I chose:

Vicki - pink flamingo crème

Lissa - tumbled turquoise crème
Kelsey - powder peach crème

The add ons I chose were:

3 Colour Fans!

Because I chose three add ons, I also received a gift! A polish duo, Farrah and Alexandra.

I was most impressed with Vicki. It's such a stunning vibrant pink. I can not wait to wear her! I was least impressed with Kelsey, I thought she would be more peachy than "fleshy". Lissa is absolutely gorgeous, too! I love the colour fans, there are 22 "fingers" on each colour fan.
For the polish duo, I wasn't very impressed. I had heard that some people received Octavia and Soraphine, which I would have preferred. I already have Farrah (gorgeous for sure) and no interest in Alexandra.
Overall I'm satisfied with my box and I love the new colours!

What did you guys get?

Julep's Cameron

Hey again!
I just posted my previous Elana mani, and I had yet another one in between then and now! I'm going to catch up on them since I finally got my new laptop (nail polish remover spills WILL kill your laptops, girls!) and I'll be able to post updated manis as they come!

Up next was Julep's Cameron.

Cameron - Silver lilac stardust (matte glitter)

Overall, I really loved Cameron. I used the Seche Vite dry fast topcoat to cover the texture (it took like 4 coats of Seche..) Very sparkly, very glamorous, and very hard to take off. Worth it though! I recommend this to anyone who
  • Likes textured polish
  • Doesn't like textured polish but likes sparkly nails (and using topcoats)
So go for it if you're considering it! Very easy to apply and very good wear!

Julep's Elana Swatch

Hey!
A few weeks ago I did a mani with Julep's Elana - and I loved it! I did my best to take pictures of her, but I'm still learning how to properly do it! I'm also still learning how to properly do my nails...

Elana - roseate crème with gold glitter.

I know my nails are different lengths, are uneven, and frankly not painted very well but oh well. The reason they aren't the same length is because I like long nails, and unfortunately my index and middle fingers break often. I'm not willing to chop down my other two because of that. Sorry.

I really like this colour, and I'm VERY glad I got it! It's very flattering. The formula was a little bit goopy but it wasn't impossible to work with. I recommend it!

Julep's August Secret Store

It's almost that time! The Secret Store for August, where you can get crazy discounts on polish and products! What's in store for this month? We don't know yet... but we have a reason to be excited!

The first of every month is a day that our wallets and bank accounts fear. Julep gives awesome deals on polishes and products AND releases a new birthstone polish! We know for sure that Queen Anne, the 3rd anniversary limited edition polish will be in the secret store.

So do we really need a reason to be excited? I mean come on, a new birthstone AND Queen Anne AND discounts!? Well, Julep gave us a whole other reason..
"Not that you need an excuse to shop the Secret Store this month….but here’s a good one anyway: Splurge on an order of $50 or more, and your next Maven Box is on us! We’ll add enough Jules to your account to cover it."
Directly from their website! Although I'm not sure if they mean they're going to add a full 2000 Jules to your account, or just enough to get to 2000. My personal assumption is that they'll actually add 2000! Is that how you understood it? Check out Julep's blogpost here.

My Secret Store Wishlist
  • August Birthstone
  • Queen Anne
  • Wizard of Oz Collection
  • Bare Face Cleansing Oil & Sponge
  • Body Milk
  • Cheap polish!

Julep Uses Photoshop?!

WHAT? JULEP PHOTOSHOPS THEIR PICTURES?!

Julep's Vicki

... Okay, haha, so we all knew that, but Julep finally addressed it! Not only did they fully admit that they use it, they also gave very good explanations as to why, such as:
  • We want to see more skin colours! We want to know if a polish will look good on us as individuals. Unfortunately, they don't have the time to swatch 13 different colours on multiple models each month. That's just how it is - they come out with new colours too often to cover all skin colours in all shades every single month.
  • Photoshop can work wonders. It can create an accurate representation of multiple skin colours just by editing. They got a group of people to test their skin colour against photoshop's edited skin colour and it looked authentic.
  • Lots of beauty businesses use photoshop! It's standard and normal to use photoshop to enhance/help show a company's product. Julep is not doing anything new or shocking!
Some people were unhappy that they photoshopped skin colours for various reasons, but Julep isn't intentionally trying to offend anyone, it's just what works for them. If you want to read their full article on it, click here

I personally am happy that they addressed this since so many people were upset and sending complaints, and kept true to themselves with honesty. How do you guys feel?

Julep Ditching DHL For Maven Boxes!

Hey!

Anyone who's been with Julep the past few months has had shipping issues on their orders - it would take weeks to receive an order! We all established that this was because of them shipping via DHL. Everyday there would be a new complaint from somebody about not receiving their package for however long and everyday people were cancelling because of this issue. Someone I know decided to start a petition for Julep to stop shipping via DHL and despite all of the complaints, only 122 people signed it. We were beginning to feel ignored as customers. A point that was made, and I'm stating it now so I don't come off as selfish, unappreciative, or anything of the sort, that shipping is FREE for Mavens and we should be thankful we don't have to pay! I 100% agree to that statement because even though I'm in Canada, I never really minded the wait time, I just supported the people who did.

Well, the time has finally come! Julep has ditched DHL for Maven boxes! And it's still FREE!

This was a very important move for them to make for their company. As a supporter, I hope they gain back some of their customers and continue to improve the company as time goes on.

Guideline To Selling/Pricing Juleps!

Hey!
I have seen a lot of people ask questions about how to price their Juleps to sell. I'm obviously not an expert on this particular topic but I've bought and sold Juleps so I have a standard I like to go by. You don't have to take my advice, since ultimately it is YOUR decision how you price them, but if you're not sure I hope I can help! The very first thing to do is take in the fact that people don't like to buy polishes from people at retail price - they could just buy from the website itself!

Before we begin ... This is MY opinion! Everyone has their own! :)

Let's go by the usage of the polish you want to sell, first. If you're selling a brand new Julep, or a Julep that has just been swatched, the prices can go from $4-8.
If you're selling a Julep that has been used for 1-2 manis, a fair price would be $2-6.
If you're selling a polish that has been used for 2+ manis, a fair price would be $1-4.
If you plan on selling a polish that has been used for any amount of manis, you should provide a photo of the "fill line" so people know what they're receiving, such as this:

Now let's go by how easy it is to access the polish. With Julep, a lot of polishes you can get multiples of because of mystery boxes, and there's a lot of polishes that are retired and very hard to find. If you want to sell an easy to access polish, i'd suggest pricing it low, so $2-5. This is because if someone really wants it and your price is too high, they can get it somewhere else for cheap. This way you have a higher chance of selling it. Ideas of polishes that fall under this category would include America, Karen, or any polish in Julep's Saavy Deals.
If you have a polish that isn't incredibly easy to get, but also not impossible, I'd go with $4-6. This way people will be interested in your fair price and would prefer to purchase from you than on the website itself. Polishes that would fall under this category would include almost anything you can purchase on the Julep website that isn't from the most recent past 2-4 months.
Polishes that are newer to Julep, such as ones just released in the past 2-4 months typically go for a higher price because of the high demand, so $5-8 depending on how much you want to get rid of it. They aren't as easy to find but there will be other people selling them as well as you, so to get the sale you choose what you think is most fair!
Retired polishes are the easiest to sell, and for the best price. People want these because they are no longer being made... very hard to find! If you actually have one you're willing to part with then you can get away with prices between $6-11. (maybe more if you think it's worth it!)

The usage rule applies to all of these ^, but is less important to retired. Lots of people just want the polish because it's impossible to get from Julep. The price worth typically doesn't change if it's 1-2 manis or less.

The next "rule" to follow is the demand of the polishes. This should be easy enough to determine and doesn't change the above guidelines, just helps choose which price to finally go with. If it's a high demand polish, you can sell it for the pricier end of the ranges you consider. If it's a polish that isn't as wanted by people, I'd go on the lower end of the range to get it to sell.

Once you put all of these suggestions together, you can easily determine your desired polish price! Again, it ALL depends on what you personally think is fair.

Do you guys agree with me, or disagree? I'd love to hear opinions!

NEW Julep Cancellation Process!

So, you know how everyone is NOT happy with cancelling their Julep subscription by phone? They don't answer the phone, your messages, you're on hold forever? WELL BEHOLD!

So exciting! Hopefully this will be a quicker, less painful way to cancel for unhappy mavens?

Do you guys think it'll work out, or do you think it'll be even worse than before?
